Michael Brand
Senior Strategic Planning Consultant
Michael Brand has raised millions, managed millions, and given away millions in 14 states as well as Europe and Australia. Over the course of a dynamic career, Michael has filled every conceivable role in a nonprofit: Board President, CEO, Fundraiser, Program Director, Advocate, Volunteer. In addition, he’s served in several grantmaking organizations as an advisor, program officer, and director.
For a generation Michael Brand has been carrying the message of transformation; that we can rethink the whole nature of our organization and create exciting new models that not only build a better world but also fulfill the hearts of members, donors, volunteers, and staff.
Most recently, Michael served as a strategic advisor for Social Venture Partners in Portland, Oregon. SVP is a different kind of philanthropy that differs from a foundation model in that SVP proactively seeks out innovative nonprofits and then makes a three-year commitment of time, expertise, and money in order to scale promising approaches to some of the most social issues.
Among Michael’s proudest accomplishments was leading the first team of nonprofit experts into Eastern Europe following the collapse of communism. Funded by the United Nations and based in Prague, Czechia (at the time Czechoslovakia), Michael’s team aided an array of small fledgling non-governmental organizations in building capacity to be effective in the new Western-style market economy.
Understanding the power of small, locally-based organizations, Michael’s strongest commitment is to voluntary associations such as Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, etc, and to the nonprofits they support. He also takes an interest in emerging alternative models of K-12 education which can better prepare our children for the future.
Michael Brand recently returned to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. He resides near the battlefields of Gettysburg.
