Mission
Associated General Contractors of Colorado served as the fiscal recipient for nearly $4 million in state and federal workforce funding. AJS Consulting Founder and Principal Audrey Szychulski was retained to provide the specialized monitoring, reporting, and compliance expertise needed to successfully administer two complex, multi-year Opportunity Now Colorado grants.
The Details
Nearly $4 million. Multiple Partners. One Fiscal Lead.
Beginning in Spring 2024, AGC Colorado entrusted Audrey Szychulski of AJS Consulting with managing compliance for two Opportunity Now Colorado grants through the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT): a Scale grant of nearly $3 million and a Seed grant of just under $1 million.
AGC served as the fiscal recipient while partner organizations delivered the workforce programming. Audrey became the primary point of coordination for grant monitoring and reporting, working directly with each subrecipient to ensure AGC met its obligations as fiscal lead.
- Coordinated quarterly narrative reporting with all subrecipients
- Managed fiscal reporting for the reimbursement-based grants
- Monitored documentation and state and federal compliance requirements
- Coordinated annual participant-level data reporting and uploads
- Completed required security vetting and clearance to manage sensitive participant information
The Scale grant supported work by Careers in Construction Colorado, the Construction Education Foundation, and the Colorado Community College System. To date, CICC and CEF have used grant funding to place 1,113 people into well-paying jobs. The Seed grant supported the University of Colorado Denver’s construction technology training program, which incorporates drone technology and job placement.
Through its Compliance Retainer, AJS provided AGC with dedicated, long-term expertise to manage the substantial responsibility that comes with nearly $4 million in public funding—without requiring AGC to build that specialized capacity internally.
“These were big, complicated grants, and AGC didn’t have someone internally whose job was to manage all of the reporting and compliance. Audrey filled that role for us. She worked with all the partners, kept track of what OEDIT needed, and made sure we stayed on top of everything.”
