Mission

The AJS Consulting Group partnered with The Thrive Networks to strengthen financial sustainability by creating a grant-development roadmap and diversifying funding sources. The goal was to reduce over-reliance on a single grant and build a broader, more resilient funding base to support Thrive’s entrepreneurship and small-business programs.

The Details

When AJS began working with The Thrive Networks in late 2022, the organization depended on one major grant, the Transforming Safety Grant, which represented nearly two-thirds of its entire operating budget. This funding concentration placed the organization at significant risk should that grant change or end.

AJS stepped in to design and implement a comprehensive grants research calendar and annual writing schedule, aligning new funding opportunities with Thrive’s mission and strategic priorities. Because AJS’s lead writers each have over 20 years of experience and operate as a self-directed extension of the client’s team, Thrive’s small staff could remain focused on what they do best: building community partnerships, running programs, and managing operations.

Within two years, AJS helped expand Thrive’s funding from a single primary source to more than a dozen institutional and corporate funders, including U.S. Bank, El Pomar, El Paso County, Huntington Bank, and the Kenneth King Foundation. In 2025, Transforming Safety now represents only about one-third of Thrive’s budget, a major shift toward long-term stability.

“Working with the AJS Consulting Group has completely transformed how we approach grant funding. Their team created a clear system and schedule that keeps us on track and proactive, not reactive. As a small organization, having AJS handle research and writing has freed our time to focus on our community and our mission.”
